What is a BTU?

1 BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by one degree from 60° to 61° Fahrenheit at a constant pressure of one atmosphere. As a general rule we advise you to buy an Air Conditioner with a minimum 7,000BTUs as this is the minimum required to cool a small room (18sq/m) on a hot day. Medium rooms (24sq/m) need around 10,000BTUs and larger rooms and office spaces (36sq/m) require around 15,000BTUs.

Question from rusty: Asked on 26/06/2011 I was wondering whether I could vent this via our open fire chimney ? I could manufacture a metal covering for the fireplace with a circular aperture to accept the hose from this conditioner ? That would take care of the heat but not sure about the condensation.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 27/06/2011
The air is just hot and doesn't contain a significant amount of humidity due to the volume of air. This should be fine to just vent up the chimney, we have heard of lots of our customers doing this with no issues. You may find you don't have to fashion a surround just a old wire coat hanger to hold the hose up the chimney

Question from Mike: Asked on 10/07/2009 Hello,
Could you let me know, does thePrem-i-Air PKY 12 heat as well as cool?
Thanks

Answer from mark h: Answered on 13/07/2009
It doesn't have a heater only function, however it will raise the temperature of a room up to 31 degrees C

Question from David: Asked on 08/07/2009 What is the energy efficiency rating of this air conditioner?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 09/07/2009
B energy rating

Question from Edd: Asked on 05/07/2009 I need an airconditioner for a 30'x10' mobile home, what would you recommend. The Prem-I-Air or Amcor?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 06/07/2009
This unit will have the capacity to cool this area, but only just so you may find that on very hot days it wont cool right down to 18 degrees. If your budget can stretch to it, then the Amcor plm15 or pcm15 would be better or the Prem-I-air KY44b would be the best option.

Question from Keith: Asked on 27/07/2008 I need a quite air conditioning unit for use at night. 50db sounds a lot but is it and do you have anything that might be quieter still?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 28/07/2008
50 decibels This is as quiet as you will get with a aircon unit. If this is too loud you could try an air cooler.

Question from Alan: Asked on 18/07/2008 Does the PKY12 definitely have a Heater in it, as it is not mentioned in the Full Specification.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 21/07/2008
It doesn’t have a dedicated heater function, however it will maintain a temperature of 15 - 31C in an appropriately sized room.

Question from John: Asked on 08/07/2008 I am considering purchasing this Air Conditioning Unit for a small timber building (12ftx10ft) housing CCTV/Computer Equipment. It is in full sun and gets very hot. Would this unit be suitable for summer/winter use? If so, and the hose is put through a hole in the wall (fixing kit available?), would a wall vent be required in order to provide ventillation?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 10/07/2008
This unit would be more than suitable as it’s a fairly small area. It comes with a hose kit so this can be routed outside like you say. A wall vent shouldn’t be necessary. A major benefit of this unit is that it would act as a dehumidifier which would be ideal in this type of building with electronics in it.

Question from Alison: Asked on 31/05/2008 Hi

Do I need to attach the hose in order for the air conidtioning to work? The product information says all doors and windows should be closed, but in order to use the hose, a window would need to be open.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 02/06/2008
Yes the hose needs to be attached, and the end of the hose needs to be positioned outside the room in which you are cooling. Ideally it should be outside (via a hole in the wall), but it is OK to run the hose out a small gap in the window etc. - Air conditioning needs good circulation (via the hose) to work properly. If good circulation is not available, I suggest you buy an Air Cooler instead, as these are built to work without external circulation.

Question from tracey courtney: Asked on 30/05/2008 Should I think about buying this product, I live in a very large spacious one bedroom loft apartment I have three laptop's running constantly, and the apartment is exposed to a lot of sun.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 02/06/2008
If your room has an adequate means of running the vent, then yes - otherwise I recommend an air cooler instead.

Question from Aash: Asked on 12/05/2008 How effective is the heating on this product ? (12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner)

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 12/05/2008
