Your Cooker Hood will need to be within reach of an electricity supply and if you choose to vent outside you will also need access to an exterior wall. You will also need to position your new hood at a minimum of 75cm above a gas hob or 65cm above an electric hob.
Chimney Hoods Designed to be mounted to a wall.
Island HoodsTo be positioned above a kitchen island.
Canopy HoodsPositioned directly under your kitchen cabinet.
Conventional HoodsA low cost hood designed to be mounted to a wall.
Integrated HoodsHidden behind a cabinet door & activated by opening the door.
Downdraft ExtractorsDesigned to be discreetly hidden away in your worktop.
The size of your kitchen will depend on the extraction rate you need, if you have a large kitchen you will need a higher extraction rate. Need to calculate the extraction rate?
Length X Width X Height of Kitchen X 10 = Extraction Rate (M³/H)
If you are recirculating the air you don't need to worry about the position of the hood as the carbon filters will remove grease and odour from the air and recirculate clean air back into your kitchen. However, if you are extracting the air the cooker hood will need to be positioned on an exterior wall so that the air can circulate.
This will depend on the size of your hob, for example if you have a 60cm hob you would ideally need a 60cm cooker hood. However, if you are buying a hood that will be fitted within your cabinets please check the dimensions of both the cabinet and hood.
