Useful Information:

1 BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by one degree from 60° to 61° Fahrenheit at a constant pressure of one atmosphere. As a general rule we advise you to buy an Air Conditioner with a minimum 7,000BTUs as this is the minimum required to cool a small room (18sq/m) on a hot day. Medium rooms (24sq/m) need around 10,000BTUs and larger rooms and office spaces (36sq/m) require around 15,000BTUs.

Question from Vien Ly: Asked on 15/07/2013 Hi, for a room which averages a humidity level of 48-55% how often would water need to be emptied from this unit? I am interested in buying one but having to empty the water tank every couple of hours would put me off. Thanks

Answer from Gavin: Answered on 15/07/2013
These units vent out. The water tank is just for internal evaporation, which can occur when the humidity is high. So you might have to deal with some water to empty, but it shouldn't be a lot.

Question from Splaf: Asked on 02/07/2011 I am trying to guage what impact this will have on our electricity bill. It would only used when temp is 22C+.
Last week when temp rose to 30C we probably would have had it on for 24h. We would set thermostat for 20-22C.
Difficult to answer, I know, but any ideas?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 04/07/2011
Very roughly this unit would cost 10-12p per hour to run dependant on how much the compressor is on, the cost of local electricity variations and lots of other variables

Question from Dave: Asked on 28/06/2011 I have an old Amcor AMB 12000...it works ok but is very noisy, I think it is rated at 50-55 DB. Can you give me an idea if this unit will be much more quiet ? or have a recommendation for a quiet unit rated at 12000 BTU or more.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 28/06/2011
We sold the AMB series a couple of years ago and the noise is very similar on all of the Amcor models. On low fan speed this will be very slightly quieter but on maximum it will be just as loud as the model you have. The main benefit would be as this model is more powerful you wouldn't need to run it as hard and it has a handy 24 hour timer in 30min segments which you could set

Question from gary l: Asked on 27/06/2011 can the extraction hose be extended if there isn't a window within 1.5m?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 28/06/2011
Its not advisable, however if you are really struggling a small extension piece (max 1m) would be ok. The downside is the unit wont be as effective. The hose is 130mm diameter and is the same type used for kitchen extractors and tumble dryers. Most DIY superstores will stock it

Question from wayne: Asked on 21/06/2011 What is the lifespan this model would you say it usually has? I have never had a air conditioner before so can you give me the noise level to something that is of everyday use?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 23/06/2011
When used just over the summer periods you would expect the unit to last 3-4 years. The noise would be comparable to a kitchen or bathroom extractor fan. Its mainly the noise of moving air that you hear, the compressor in the units is quiet

Question from Andy: Asked on 04/07/2010 What efficiency rating does this model have?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 05/07/2010
Its B rated

Question from snoddy: Asked on 29/06/2010 Do I need to put water in this ? What has to be connected to where / what / What di I actually have to do to be able to use it ? I have an air cooler (useless) and I am constantly having to lug water upstairs. Also is this man enough to heat a room 13ft by 13ft in winter and cool it in summer please ?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 29/06/2010
No water is needed. Just needs plugging into the mains and the hose venting out either a window or a wall vent. Only time you will need to empty it is before storing for the winter. Bare in mind that the hose length is 1.5m and this cant be extended. This unit would be able to accommodate rooms over twice this size for cooling and heating, so no problem at all

Question from Ken Ellis: Asked on 28/06/2010 Do you need to run a hose out of a window

Rgds,

Ken

Answer from mark h: Answered on 28/06/2010
Yes you will need to vent the hose either out of a window or a wall vent

Question from peter: Asked on 24/06/2010 is this unit very quiet cause the last unit i brought was very loud

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/06/2010
The noise rating is 49-60dB which I would say is around average for a portable air conditioner, however for the volume of air they move they are relatively quiet.

Question from Bruce: Asked on 16/06/2010 Do I have to use the hose to vent the unit. I do not have a window that opens.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 16/06/2010
Yes you would need to vent the hose out of a window, or a fixed wall vent

Question from Tim: Asked on 08/06/2010 Does this unit have any consumables that need replacing, for example the refrigerant?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 08/06/2010
The filters may need replacing depending on usage, but they are washable. The refrigerant should last for the life of the unit

Question from Russell: Asked on 06/06/2010 Hi,
I have a south facing conservatory, the floor area is 18 sqm it has a max height of 3m for half its length then it pitches down to 2.1m. So far this summer the temp inside the conservatory has been 33 degrees C with the windows open. With this 15000 btu unit what would be the realistic temp inside the conservatory.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/06/2010
Its harder to tell with conservatories and It will vary greatly depending on how sunny it is, however for that size you should be able to get down to low 20's even on the hottest sunniest days

Question from B. Hakim: Asked on 06/06/2010 Does the unit have a container to capture condensed moisture and if yes, typically how often does the container needs to be emptied?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/06/2010
Yes, it has an internal water tank however in the UK its very unlikely that this will need to be emptied as the humidity levels are low and the excess moisture is expelled out of the hose. Generally the only time you will need to empty it is before storage

Question from karen: Asked on 03/06/2010 does this come with a flat head unit to go out of the window

Answer from mark h: Answered on 04/06/2010
Yes it does, and a sliding blanking plate

Question from Mark: Asked on 24/05/2010 Can this unit be set up to switch on at a particular time?

Yes it can, there is a 24 hour programmable timer
