What size TV you need depends upon where it is going in your house. If your TV is for your living room, generally you'll want a TV that is 43" and above. If it's for a bedroom then you'd want to look at TVs around 32". Measure the space you would like your new TV to go in to make sure you have enough room behind and around the TV for cables. It is also important to consider how far you need to sit away from your TV as some technologies will produce a distorted image if you sit too close or too far away.
To put it simply, the screen resolution is determined by the number of pixels in the TV’s screen. Most TVs now have 4K Ultra HD resolution, so you are guaranteed a good picture quality. 4K TVs have four times the pixels of Full HD, creating a crystal-clear image that is packed full of detail. TVs with 4K technology tend to come in bigger sizes, as this picture quality can be appreciated much more in larger screens. 720p HD Ready resolution offers a clear picture and is often found in smaller TVs, while 1080p, or Full HD TVs, provide a more detailed picture.
Ideally, you should sit around 1.5 times the TV screen size away for the best viewing experience. For a 50” TV you should therefore sit around 6.25’ away. Sitting closer to a TV could mean you do not experience as clearer picture quality.
Smart TVs open you up to a world of on demand, streaming and much more, directly through your TV. Apps such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub help you to catch up on the week’s TV while Netflix and Amazon Video provide a new source of entertainment. They don’t just provide TV services either, you can browse the web, keep in touch with social media and more. All you need is your internet connection and you are good to go. Not all Smart TVs offer the same apps and services, so it is important to check the apps you want are available before buying.
HDR, or High Dynamic Range, technology produces a wider range of colours from the darkest blacks to the whitest whites, to deliver an extremely accurate, more natural and true-to-life picture quality. It refers to the contrast between dark and light colours within an image and helps to produce a delicate blend of colour and shifts in tone to unleash every detail. Images are more vibrant and offer a much more vivid experience.
