How to fit and plumb-in a washing machine

Fitting and plumbing-in a washing machine might seem daunting, but with the right guidance, it can be a manageable DIY task. Whether you're connecting a Bosch, AEG, Beko, or Indesit washing machine, our step-by-step guide provides clarity and confidence for your installation.

Our Step-by-Step Guide

      1. Disconnecting the Old Machine(If Applicable): Turn off the water supply using the isolating valve (often a small blue tap). Unplug from power and prepare a bucket—detach hoses carefully to avoid spills. Remember to remove the old drain hose.
      2. Unpacking & Removing Transit Bolts: Locate and unscrew the transit bolts in the drum, which protect the machine during transport. Brands like Samsung or Beko usually supply plastic caps to cover the bolt holes post-removal.
      3. Connecting the Water Supply: Connect the provided hose to the cold water inlet on your machine. Hand-tighten, then slightly tighten with pliers. Attach the other end to your wall supply and cautiously open the valve to check for leaks.
      4. Installing the Drain Hose: Place the U-shaped drain hose into the standpipe, ensuring it’s 60 cm above the floor but not more than 150 mm inside the pipe to prevent siphoning or overflow issues.
      5. Powering Up Safely: Position your machine near a UK-rated 13 A wall socket with earthing; avoid extension leads. Plug it directly into the wall.
      6. Levelling the Machine: Use a spirit level to ensure the washer is balanced. Adjust the feet, and check brands like Bosch or Beko for tips on securing the locking nuts after leveling.
      7. Test Run & Safety Check: Run an empty wash cycle to check for leaks and ensure everything operates quietly. Monitor for unusual noises and recheck connections as needed.
