What is BTU?

A BTU (British Thermal Unit) is a rating used to determine the cooling capacity an Air Conditioner.

Typically a minimum of 7,000 BTU is needed to cool a small room, whereas commercial units can reach up to 25,000 BTU and beyond. Simply put, the greater the BTU, the larger the space the unit can effectively cool.

Hi, Yes, the PortaCool 5000 BTU Smart Portable Split Air Conditioner requires the outdoor unit to be positioned outside when cooling. It is a split system, so it does not need a standard exhaust hose vented through a window. The indoor unit stays inside the room, while the outdoor unit releases the heat externally for efficient cooling.
