Samsung screen mirroring: How to share your screen with ease

Smartphones are the go-to device of choice for consuming digital content, but sometimes nothing beats watching it on a big screen. Whether it’s streaming movies and shows or sharing photos, selfies and montages, Samsung TVs screen mirroring is a great way of sharing your phone’s content to your TV.

Smart View and SmartThings are clever little Samsung apps which enable you to connect your phone and your TV. The age of your TV will determine which app you’ll need, with models manufactured from 2016 onwards using SmartThings. Older models will need to use Smart View.

Let’s take a look at how to get connected.

Using Smart View

The Smart View app enables whatever content is on your phone screen to appear on your smart TV, at the same time – just like a mirror.

The first thing to do is ensure your TV and phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Once they’re connected, follow these simple steps.

  1. Swipe down from the top of your phone’s screen to open the Quick Panel and tap the Smart View icon. You might have to toggle through your apps to find it.
  2. Select your TV from the list of devices and click allow.
  3. Tap start now on the pop-up message.
  4. If prompted, enter the PIN code as displayed on your TV.
  5. Any content displayed on your phone should now appear on your TV.

Using Samsung SmartThings App

SmartThings is the newer version of the Samsung Smart View app. It lets you control your smart TV with your phone, and connect to and control other smart appliances.

  1. Here’s how to start screen mirroring with SmartThings.
  2. Make sure your phone and smart TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, then download and open the SmartThings app on your phone.
  3. Tap + then tap add device to add your TV.
  4. Select more options (the three vertical dots) and select mirror screen (Smartview).
  5. Your phone’s screen should now be mirrored on your TV.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Check your Wi-Fi connection. Your phone and TV must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Update software. Always update to the newest version when prompted.
  • Restart devices. Sometimes a simple reboot can fix connectivity issues.
