What's a BTU?

BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures how much heat a radiator can output. The higher the BTU, the more warmth it provides. To choose the right radiator, calculate the BTU needed for your room size, insulation, and window type. Too low, and your space stays chilly; too high, and you waste energy.

which valves do I need?

Which valves do I need?

Angled Radiator Valves

Angled radiator valves are typically used when the pipework comes from the floor, or from the wall directly behind the radiator. The angled design allows for a neat connection.

Corner Radiator Valves

Corner valves are often used when the pipework comes from the wall, or runs along the wall and needs to turn a corner to connect to the side of the radiator.

Straight Radiator Valves

Straight radiator valves are used when the pipework comes up from the floor directly beneath the radiator and are perfect for towel radiators where the inlets are at the bottom. They're not suitable for side-entry radiators unless the pipework runs along the wall horizontally.

H-Block Radiator Valves

H-Block radiator valves are a more compact solution, often used with modern radiators that have connections at the bottom, rather than the sides.

Pipe route/Inlet type Pipe up from floor Pipe out of wall Pipe runs along wall
Side Angled Corner (neatest) or Angled* Straight
Bottom Straight Corner —
Middle twin ports Straight Angled H-block (Rare) Corner

* While you can often rotate an angled valve, corner valves can offer a cleaner look and prevent accidental bumps.
