Commercial washing machine in a hotel laundry room

Commercial Laundry
Buying Guide

Washers, dryers and ironers built for business.

Clean Linen, Without the Wait

If your business washes every day, a domestic machine will not keep up for long.

Hotels, care homes, salons, gyms, restaurants and holiday lets all wash far more than a household. Commercial laundry machines are built for many more cycles and finish them faster, so you need fewer machines and fewer repairs.

Why Choose Commercial Laundry?

Shorter programmes

Commercial programmes are built to finish faster, so you get more loads through each day.

More cycles

Machines are designed for thousands more cycles than domestic models before major parts need attention.

Hygiene programmes

Many models offer high temperature and disinfection programmes, useful for care homes and healthcare.

Built-in options

Drain pumps, payment systems and stacking kits let you fit the machine to your site.

How Big and How Many?

Commercial washing machine

Work it out from your linen

Add up a day of laundry by weight. A single bed sheet, two pillowcases and a duvet cover weigh roughly 2kg to 3kg, and a bath towel around half a kilo. Divide by the machine capacity to see how many loads you need, then check how many the machine can finish in your working day.

Pair every washer with a dryer that matches its capacity, or the dryer becomes the bottleneck. Heat pump dryers cost less to run; vented dryers are usually faster and need an outside vent.

Example: Electrolux Professional says its myPRO 8kg washer is built for 7,500 cycles and the 12kg myPRO XL for 15,000, compared with 2,500 for a typical domestic machine.

Before you order

  • Check the electrical supply: many commercial washers plug into 13 amp, but some need a 16 amp or hard-wired supply.
  • Check water connections and whether you need a drain pump or a gravity drain.
  • Measure doorways, as commercial machines are often heavier and deeper than domestic ones.
  • Ask about stacking kits if you are short of floor space.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a commercial and a domestic washing machine?

Commercial machines are designed for many more cycles, with stronger components and shorter programmes, so they cope with the daily volume of a business.

What size commercial washing machine do I need?

Weigh a typical day of laundry and divide it by the drum size. Most small businesses choose 8kg to 12kg machines.

Can I stack a commercial washer and dryer?

Many matching pairs can be stacked with the right stacking kit. Check the product page for compatible kits.

Which dryer type is cheapest to run?

Heat pump dryers use the least energy. Vented dryers are usually quicker but need an outside vent.
